The Maxima Clam, aka the small giant clam, is a species of bivalve mollusc found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Giant clams are one of the most endangered species of molluscs and several species have already been completely eradicated from some countries. Giant clams are poached for the aquarium hobby, for consumption in restaurants, and as a substitute for ivory for making luxury ornaments, especially in China.
